Mononuclear arene ruthenium complexes containing 5,6-diphenyl-3-(pyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine as chelating ligand: Synthesis and molecular structure

The mononuclear cations of the general formula [(η-arene)RuCl(pdpt)]+ (pdpt = 5,6-diphenyl-3-(pyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine; arene = CH (); CHMe (2); -PrCHMe (3); CMe ()) have been synthesised from 5,6-diphenyl-3-(pyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine (pdpt) and the corresponding chloro complexes [(η-CH)Ru(μ-Cl)Cl] , [(η-CHMe)Ru(μ-Cl)Cl], [(η-PrCHMe)Ru(μ-Cl)Cl] and [(η-CMe)Ru(μ-Cl)Cl], respectively. The X-ray crystal structure analyses of [][PF] • (CH) and [][PF] • (CHCN)2 reveal a typical piano-stool geometry around the metal centre and in the crystal packing a complexed networks of intermolecular interactions.
